Chana Masala Hummus

Chana Masala (a.k.a. Chloe Masala, channay) is a Northern Indian dish that includes garbanzo beans, tomatoes, spinach, and spices. This is a variation of those flavors, but as a hummus. For the original Chana Masala recipe, click the link above. It is quite divine. This hummus recipe omits the tomato and onion, though you certainly could add either, along with finely chopped ginger or ginger powder. I decided to keep it simple:

1 can Garbanzo Beans
2 Cloves Garlic, diced
Juice of 1 Lemon
2 tbsp. Tahini
1/2 tsp. Curry Powder or 1 tsp Curry Paste
1/2 tsp. Ground Coriander
1/2 tsp. Cumin
1/2 tsp. Garam Masala

Drain liquid from garbanzo beans, but save for later. Add garbanzo beans, diced garlic, lemon juice, tahini, and spices to a food processor. Add a small amount (maybe 2 tbsp.) of garbanzo bean liquid to start. Process hummus until smooth. If creamier texture is desired, add small amounts of garbanzo bean liquid until proper consistency is reached. Serve with baked naan, pita, veggies, or as a spread.
